I came across this Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar when I was searching for the best burger in Raleigh on my cheat meal day (yes, that was really my search); and the best burger was definitely what I got. I have been here a few times since my first visit and this place has really begun to grow on me, and no wonder why; there’s great food, at good prices, with a fun atmosphere.
One of my favorite things on the menu is the Bacon Queso appetizer ($6.95), which combines the two most amazing ingredients in cooking: cheese and bacon. Every time I have come to this place I’ve gotten this appetizer. It is a good portion size to share and pairs very well with a beer. You would think that an appetizer like this would fill you up to the point of being too full for your entrée, however the chips are very light and not overly filling, which complemented the queso and bacon very nicely, since both ingredients are quite heavy. The queso is a traditional queso, made with creamy cheese and seasonings. At first I thought the bacon would be too much with the heaviness of the cheese, but the bacon is chopped, allowing it to mix with the cheese really well. Hands down one of my favorite appetizers at any restaurant!
One of the burgers I tried was the Pittsburgher Burger ($11.25), which features a garlic ketchup, house made American cheese, shoestring fries, lettuce, and tomato. This burger has a bit of a twist to it and the beef is absolutely delicious and fresh, which ties in very well with the tanginess of the house-made American cheese and shoestring fries. I was actually surprised with the robust flavor profile of the burger after having the bacon quest. This burger certainly does not disappoint. Initially I thought putting fries on a burger would be too much, but the shoestring cut is extremely light and did not make the burger too heavy.
I also tried the Bacon Cheeseburger on Steroids ($12.95) and it is by far my favorite burger. However, if you’re getting the bacon queso, you may want something with a different taste profile, because this burger of course has cheese and bacon as the main contenders – but is there really such a thing as too much bacon or cheese? This burger has a total of 6 slices of bacon: 3 apple wood bacon slices and 3 jalapeno bacon slices, along with bacon mayo, which all pairs exceptionally well with Monterey jack cheese. For sides I suggest either the sweet potato fries or the tator tots. Tator tots add a nice classic twist to the burgers and are sometimes hard to come by in restaurants, however as far as flavor goes, the sweet potato fries are a great side to any of the burgers. They are house cut and seasoned to perfection, and are crunchier than the average sweet potato fry, which I really liked.
Overall I do believe the Yelpers, Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar is the best place in Raleigh to get a burger. It has a great vibe with a neighborhood type feel in a great location. If you’re not going for the delicious food, at least go for the amazing beer selection and milkshake options. This place also has a nice outdoor seating area with ambient lighting, which makes for a nice hangout spot with your friends or furry friends. Also a word of advice, this place can get pretty packed on the weekends, so plan to come ahead to put your name down or try to find a spot at the bar, do not come starving in case you have to wait a bit – but this place is surely worth the wait!
