Jerk Fest 2016

Some of my favorite types of events in the Triangle are cultural events, especially cultural events that involve food.  That is why we are so excited to tell you about an upcoming Caribbean event, Jerk Fest.  The third annual Jerk Fest will be held in Durham on September 24.  The event will feature a 5k, music, family fun and several events that any foodie would be excited about.  The best part is that all of the proceeds from this event will go to the CaribSplash Youth Development Program.

CaribSplash is a nonprofit organization that strives to provide educational materials, sporting equipment and food and nutrition to children locally and internationally.  Since its inception, CaribSplash has raised over $18,000 for children in need.  With that money, they have provided sporting equipment for over 100 children in Jamaica, Kenya and Costa Rica.  They also partner with food companies in these countries to help establish feeding programs and healthy food for children in need.  In addition, they also hold drives for local children (back to school) with the help of their hard working volunteers.  CaribSplash understands the importance of food, nutrition and exercise in the lives of children and wants to make sure all kids have access to these things.  CaribSplash has also supported missionary trips to Costa Rica, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Kenya.  CaribSplash understands the importance of food, nutrition and exercise in the lives of children and wants to make sure all kids have access to these fundamental items.

Jerk Fest

Jerk Fest is CaribSplash’s biggest fundraiser of the year and will provide a ton of foodie fun.  It’s difficult to find a taste of the Caribbean here in Raleigh, so Jerk Fest wants to bring that to you.  Start by attending the Jerk Cook-Off, an Iron Chef-like competition where chefs will have time limits and secret ingredients.  There will also be a number of cooking demos sponsored by Grace Foods.  In addition, there will be a wing-eating contest.  Sign up for the contest so you can stuff your face with wings as an appetizer before you dig in to all of the other delicious Caribbean cuisine.  In addition to these delicious events, there will be a number of vendors providing a lot of other Caribbean food choices for your enjoyment.

The event itself is free, but you can buy lots of food or sign up for contests or the Jerk Fest 5k.  The 5k is open to both children and adults and includes a medal, t-shirt, beverage and some jerk chicken in the price of your ticket.  Stop by and see us at the event to get some fun Triangle Food Adventure merchandise, too!  If you want a taste of the Caribbean, this event is definitely for you.  Between the delicious food and amazing cause, you’re sure to have a great time!
