We love to dig into some savory deliciousness, as evidenced by our growing number of restaurant reviews. But there is nothing like indulging in a sweet treat every now and then. Here are some of the area’s best places to satisfy your sweet tooth.
Escazú Artisan Chocolate (936 N Blount Street, Raleigh, NC 27604)
Escazu is a quiet little spot near Mordecai Village that is cranking out bean to bar chocolate, truffles and specialty items. The aromas alone will transport you back to your childhood when you wish you were one of the kids who won a golden ticket to Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. The scents aren’t the only thing that will cue nostalgia. Their spicy chocolate ice cream push-ups are the grown up and better tasting version of days past.
RISE Morrisville (1100 Market Center Drive, Morrisville, NC 27560)
Rise has quickly risen, quite literally, to sweet popularity within just 4 short years since its inception. With a menu of both biscuits and donuts, savory and sweet fans can come together and savor the flavor Rise is serving up. Old school favorites of plain glazed and chocolate iced donuts are traditional donuts done well. However, the new school crème brûlée donut launches itself into a category of its own. Just one bite into the crisp brûléed exterior leading into the smooth and creamy interior will have you hooked.
Baker’s Dozen Donut Shop (1307 Buck Jones Road, Raleigh, NC 27606)
Baker’s Dozen Donut Shop sits on the quiet side of South Hills Mall on the edge of Raleigh and Cary. With an owner as sweet as the treats themselves, she serves up an endless variety of donuts from cake to yeast or glazed to filled. You cannot pass up their apple fritters. These apple fritters are the delectable mashup of an apple pie and a donut. Sweet, tart, spiced and everything nice.
Sugarland Cameron Village (2031 Cameron Street, Raleigh, NC 27605)
Sugarland Cameron Village is constantly abuzz with families and college kids alike. Their weekly and monthly rotating menu features an endless variety of cupcakes, gelato and pastries. Despite enough options to make your head churn like gelato, make a bee line for Sugarland on Monday for their Chocolate Caramel Fleur de Sel cupcake. This handheld novelty hits every note of dessert decadence including dark chocolate, rich caramel and just a touch of salt to cut through the sweetness.
Favor Desserts (5607 Highway 55, Suite 105, Durham, NC 27713)
Favor Desserts in Durham receives constant traffic from those traveling along highway 55 to and from RTP. From an afternoon pick-me-up to a cake for your big day, “The Cake Man” delivers. Their cakes are moist and flavorful with multiple varieties to appease any hankering for a bite of sweetness. The signature 5-Flavor Pound Cake will not disappoint as it keeps your taste buds jumping with curiosity to name all 5 flavors.
